Lorik Marshania’s 85th year’s anniversary held at Art Gallery of Valeri Arkania

Organized by the Government of the A/R of Abkhazia were held the prominent representative of the Abkhazian nation, a well-known politician, scientist and public figure, awarded with Vakhtang Gorgasali I Quality Order, Lorik Marshania's 85th year's anniversary at Art Gallery of Valeri Arkania.

The evening was participated by the the State Ensemble of Abkhazian Song and Dance headed by Levan Ghvinjilia.

Vakhtang Kolbaia, the Acting Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Elguja (Gia) Gvazava, Lorik Marshania's daughter and MP Ada Marshania, members of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Deputies of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and internally displaced people attended the meeting.

Lorik Marshania was born in Ochamchire on 24 November 1932 in the family of descendants of the Marshania. He graduated from Sokhumi High School #IV. He studied at Moscow State Economic Institute. In 1988 he was awarded the title of professor. In 1992-2002 she held the position of First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia.

Ethnic Abkhazian Lorik Marshania was among the few Abkhazian figures who openly opposed the separatist leader Vladislav Ardzinba in the 90s of the last century. It was always principally defending the independence of Abkhazian ethnos and simultaneously discussing the good future of Abkhazians only in Georgia. That is why Lorik Marshania, as fighting against separatism, has contributed to strengthening Georgia's unity and sovereignty.

Loric Marshania was a well-known scientist-doctor of economics, Professor, Giorgi Sharvashidze Prize laureate, Author of more than 250 scientific works. Until the last minutes of his life, he was constantly trying to solve the conflict with civilized ways, the methods of public diplomacy, and the initiator of their implementation.

"I am Abkhaz and I proudly say that my Georgia starts from Abkhazia"- these words belongs to him.

Loric Marshania died tragically as a result of a car accident on 13 August 2010.
