Abkhazia (abkh. Аҧсны ) - Autonomous Republic of Georgia

Administrative center - Sokhumi

Official languages - Georgian, Abkhazian

Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia is situated at the North-West part of Georgia. River Psou runs at its North-West border. On the East the border goes on Svaneti-Abkhazia Caucasian ridge and river Enguri. The central watershed of the Greater Caucasus top ridge forms its Northern border and on the South and South-West the Black Sea. The length of Abkhazian Black Sea shore line is 195 km. The territory of the Autonomous republic is 8.700 sq.km. that makes 12,5% of the whole territory of Georgia.

Climate - warm, damp, subtropical, annual averidge temperature is +15 C degrees Celsius. Sunny days - 220 per/year.

Highest peak - Dombai-Ulgen, 4046 m.high.

The deepest known crystal cave on Earth - Kruber cave, depth 1190 m.

The biggest lake - Ritsa

Main rivers - Bzyp and Kodori

The shortest river (in the world) - Reprua (length 18 m.)

Flora - Abkhazian nature is various with its forest and plant resources. There are more than 133 endemic plants. Flora counts 2000 varieties, 250 of them are used in medicine. Forest area amounts 52% of the whole territory.

Fauna - Abkhazian fauna is one of the richest not only in Georgia but in the whole Caucasus area. There are more then 440 vertebrate species, thus amounting 1% of the world fauna; 30% of it attributes to rare and vanishing spicies.
